Christoph Altstaedt and Maxim Lando

Christoph Altstaedt
Maxim Lando, piano
With a classical three-of-a-kind – Beethoven, Liszt, and Berlioz – we are pulling out all the aces.
Contrary to all expectations from a pianist of superhuman virtuosity, it took Franz Liszt a full 26 years to complete his Piano Concerto No. 1. He began sketching it at the age of nineteen, but only premiered it at 45, as a mature artist at the pinnacle of his fame. This spectacular work is interpreted by Maxim Lando, a finalist of the Van Cliburn Competition and hailed by critics as one of the most brilliant and imaginative pianists of his generation.
Liszt’s concerto was premiered back in 1855 under the baton of none other than Hector Berlioz, whose Roman Carnival Overture opens the evening.
The program concludes with one of the most important big bangs in musical history – Beethoven’s Eroica. Making his first appearance with our orchestra, the multitalented Christoph Altstaedt takes the conductor’s podium.
